Why did I find the carpenter ant infestation at the condo last summer completely unacceptable, but our ever-growing population of ladybugs at The Box House completely charming?
They started appearing a couple of weeks ago. We've found a score or two in the downstairs unit, but tons and tons of them upstairs. The unit is empty right now. No furniture, nothing. The floors were sanded and everything more or less dusted down. Where are they coming from? Every few days, I go upstairs and sweep up a pile of them. If Maggie's with me, she'll try to eat them, whether they are dead or not.
It's an insect invasion, but I can't work myself up to be upset about ladybugs. But ants, spiders, termites, and cockroaches? When I spot them, they're out of here.

And they all played games
At the ladybugs' picnic
They had twelve sacks so they ran sack races
They fell on their backs and they fell on their faces

They played jump rope but the rope it broke
So they just sat around telling knock-knock jokes

They talked about the high price of furniture and rugs

I know, they are cute I guess, and they eat other bugs, so they couldn't be all bad.
We had masses of them huddled in the corners of the back bedroom last fall. I just left them there. A couple died and
I swept them up, the rest moved on.
I feel exactly the same way! I squash spiders with relish, I will hand-carry a ladybug outside. Cleo chews on them for a few seconds and then spits them out. They just look...happy.
What Marilyn said. Yep, me too. I carry them outside.
I moved my blog to wordpress...new url...

I've set up my links on the frontpage and of course...included you!

Thanks for the link, Jean! I was thinking of checking out Word Press, too.
Marilyn--I think it's all the children's songs we learned, or picture books we read with ladybugs in them. They're easy to love.
They are the best thing for a garden! I'm with you. Don't like all those other bugs!
